Being a waiter seems to be the staple of any young persons life. This high paced job is all about putting on a front for everyone else to see. No matter how crazy things get behind the kitchen doors, you have to keep a smile on your face for your customers to see.

I'm willing to bet that everyone reading this has been out to a restaurant more than once in their lives and has had experience with a waiter or waitress before. We all know what makes that person a good server, they are friendly, helpful, and attentive to you're every need. What most people don't understand however, is that being a waiter or a waitress is not the simple, easygoing job that everyone assumes it to be.

Being a waiter is an insanely stressful job. A waiter is at the beck and call of multiple tables, having to be there to solve every problem, remember every order, all the time being fast, happy, and keeping a smile on their faces. And as anyone in the customer services will tell you, working with people is not easy. There will always be people who will try to take advantage and get free things, there's patrons who don't understand that they're not the only person you have to take care of, and then there are people who just don't seem to understand the concept of being kind to those offering you a service. I can't tell you how many times I've witnessed these things or other things happen. I've seem waiters cry because their patrons didn't pick up on these concepts and didn't seem to understand that waiters are people to, people who have lives just like them, people who make mistakes.

Another thing that people don't seem to understand about waiters is that they work up to 13 hour shifts and don't even make minimum wage "because of tip share" when there are guests that either don't tip or tip very little because "there waiter wasn't outstanding". And can I just say, even if you don't think that your waiter was anything special, they still going through so much to please their patrons. At any given time, a waiter can have up to 7 tables to worry about and have to remember all of their orders and what they need and when they need it. Just remember that the next time you go out to eat somewhere.
